I’m a huge fan of retro fashion and incorporating vintage pieces into my wardrobe to create a modern look. Unfortunately, I’m not really good about frequenting vintage shops and browsing through racks to find what I want. Therefore, I love finding new pieces with a retro twist, like this 70s-inspired striped tank top from Madewell.
Although this tank seems simple at first glance, the colors and texture make it one-of-a-kind. When I saw it, it reminded me of something Mila Kunis would have worn when she played Jackie on That 70s Show. To achieve the retro vibe I was going for, I paired it with denim skinny jeans and clogs. However, if I owned a pair of bell bottom jeans, I would have worn those instead to stay true the 70s style I was trying to achieve.
Aside from the 70s-inspired style, I love that the sweater material of this top is perfect for Portland’s mild summer weather. The weather can sometimes be on the cooler side, so it helps to have pieces that provide just enough warmth but are still summer-appropriate. Plus, I love that I can easily mix and match this shirt with other clothes in my wardrobe depending on the occasion.
Just looking at the past few posts, it seems like I’m definitely getting into a habit of borrowing from the past. I’m curious, are you all a fan of vintage fashion and retro styles? If so, what decade do you often find yourself borrowing style cues from?
