    How to Spend 36 Hours in Seattle

    I’ve recently realized that I’ve taken for granted that I live in such close proximity to so many amazing cities and towns. My latest trip to Seattle is a true testament to that. Despite the city only being a short train ride and a 3.5-hour drive away, it’s still taken me over 4 years of living in the Pacific Northwest to visit. With a friend’s wedding to attend this month, I was finally forced (or, let’s say, strongly encouraged) to make my way up there and explore this beautiful city. 

    Although our stay was short, my friend Kelsey and I still managed to pack in quite a bit during our 36-hour stay. We stayed at a hotel in downtown Seattle which made it very convenient to explore the city. Just the way I like it, our trip consisted of a good amount of sightseeing, coffee and good food.

    As with any type of shopping, buying furniture can be a pain if you don’t have a good system in place. To start, it can be heartbreaking to not find those pieces that make your space feel like home. And it’s also very easy to give up and just purchase something simply to fill up space.

    As I’ve worked to furnish the first apartment I’ve lived in on my own this past year, I’ve made an intention to avoid the pitfalls I just mentioned. I knew that I wanted my apartment to truly reflect my style. I also wanted to fill it with pieces I knew I would cherish for years.

    It’s taken me an entire year to furnish my apartment, mostly because of the time it takes to find good vintage furniture. Thankfully, it’s finally in a good spot, and I’ve learned some tricks that I know will help me find some great vintage gems when the time comes for me to upgrade to a new and bigger place.

    Every Portlander will tell you that the months of nonstop rain are worth it because Portland has the best summers. I have to say that it’s a claim that is very much true. As soon as summer comes around, it seems like the city becomes a million times livelier. The weather is simply perfect, the days are long and beautiful, and there are fun and exciting things happening everywhere you go.

    It’s really hard to stay at home and do nothing when there’s so much happening around the city and so many reasons to go outside. Trust me, I’ve been trying to have a chill weekend at home these past few weeks and have totally failed. While you don’t need my advice to run into something fun to do in this beautiful city, I still thought it’d be fun to sum up a few of my favorite things to do in Portland this summer.
