    Every Portlander will tell you that the months of nonstop rain are worth it because Portland has the best summers. I have to say that it’s a claim that is very much true. As soon as summer comes around, it seems like the city becomes a million times livelier. The weather is simply perfect, the days are long and beautiful, and there are fun and exciting things happening everywhere you go.

    It’s really hard to stay at home and do nothing when there’s so much happening around the city and so many reasons to go outside. Trust me, I’ve been trying to have a chill weekend at home these past few weeks and have totally failed. While you don’t need my advice to run into something fun to do in this beautiful city, I still thought it’d be fun to sum up a few of my favorite things to do in Portland this summer.     Lessons Learned During Marathon Training

    I’ve mentioned a few times that I’ve been absent from this space because I was busy training for a marathon. Completing 26.2 miles was something I’ve always wanted to do but seemed to always put on the back burner. I originally planned to tackle the goal when I started grad school, but my busy schedule made it nearly impossible to run at all. As the years kept passing by, it seemed less likely that I would ever accomplish it.

    After a running hiatus late last year, I was determined to get back into it at full force in 2019. I signed up for a half-marathon with a few friends from work, and that’s where my journey began. With a half-marathon on the horizon, I couldn’t use Portland’s gloomy weather as an excuse to skip my workout. So regardless of rain, snow or sunshine, I made sure to get in my miles every week.
