Brands that Give Back by sweet-helen-grace featuring sparkly necklaces
As many of
you already know, when I’m not working on this blog I work for a
nonprofit doing marketing and fundraising. Based on my choice of career,
I think that it’s needless to say that making a difference in my
community is something that is very dear and close to my heart.
For that reason, I am always excited when I find brands that are dedicated to giving back. I find that I feel so much better about spending money on myself when I know that I’m still doing something small to help communities in need. In order to inspire my readers to make more mindful purchases, I wanted to dedicate my February Picks to brands that I feel are doing amazing work in the community:
1. Angela & Roi is a brand dedicated to promoting and giving back to important causes through simple and classic handbag designs. I first heard about Angela & Roi while I was browsing through Fab.com and was immediately intrigued by the brand’s tagline “Angela & Roi: Where Fashion meets Philanthropy,” because it demonstrates their commitment to making products with a purpose. For every handbag that Angela & Roi sells, the company donates a portion of each sale to nonprofit organizations specializing in widespread health issues.
What really makes Angela & Roi unique is their “Donate by Color” concept which links different nonprofit organizations and causes with a specific color. In addition, every Angela & Roi handbag comes with a different color ribbon representing a specific health issue. Therefore the “Donate by Color” concept basically means that when you buy a bag in a certain color you are not only donating to a specific cause, but you are also taking the initiative to promote awareness about a particular health issue in your community.
I love that Angela & Roi is dedicated to promoting awareness about a variety of health issues. I’m really looking forward to purchasing their Square Gray Tote to promote awareness about Diabetes, and their Classic Red Cross-Body Bag to promote AIDS Awareness, in the near future.
2. 31 Bits is an awesome jewelry company that uses fashion and design to empower women in Uganda to rise above poverty. In order to accomplish this goal, 31 Bits offers a 5-year program to women in Uganda, which allows them to earn income while teaching them to create beautiful quality jewelry. While participating in the program, women are also able to have access to several services provided by 31 Bits including mentorship, counseling, and health education. The overall purpose of 31 Bits’ program is to help women graduate with their own business, and give them the skills they need to feel empowered and become educated.
I recently bought some bracelets from 31 Bits this summer while I was at the Make Music Festival in Pasadena. Aside from the amazing work that is being done by this company, what really caught my eye was the unique designs and vibrant colors used in each piece. I was also fascinated to learn that each piece of jewerly is made from recycled paper which makes them very eco-friendly.
3. UncommonGoods is a shop dedicated to not only giving back to a variety of causes, but also selling products that are environmentally friendly and socially responsible. What is great about UncommonGood’s online market-place is that they sell a variety of products, making it easier for you to purchase with a purpose; the marketplace includes everything from art to clothes, and their products come in a variety of prices. UncommonGoods is great place to buy gifts for friends and family, because you are bound to find something for every special person in your life.
Products bought on UncommonGoods support the following nonprofit organizations: American Forests, Women for Women International, City Harvest and the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN)
That’s it for my February Picks. I hope that they can inspire you to make more meaningful purchases in the future!
