This dark and minimalist outfit is such a contrast from last week’s outfit post. However, I think it’s more representative of the types of ensembles you can find me wearing these days. These days, I gravitate towards outfit combinations that are both chic and effortless. This outfit is perfect for when you’re rushing to dinner or happy hour with friends straight after work. All you have to do is throw on a blazer to make it work for the office, and then either take it off or keep it on depending on the occasion.

You’ve seen most of these items before since I’m keeping my shopping to a minimum these days, but the one brand new item is this Everlane muscle tank. This muscle tank is quickly becoming one of my favorite pieces because the relaxed fit is very flattering. The wider straps and high neckline make it very versatile and provide the perfect canvas for a cute statement necklace, like the one I’m wearing with this outfit. I decided to wear this tank with jeans on this day because the weather was a bit chilly outside. But, I’ve also paired it with a pencil skirt for work. For reference, I’ve noticed that tops tend to run a bit large. Therefore, I sized down and purchased an X-Small.

Since I don’t have a huge shopping budget these days, I love finding pieces in my closet that have stood the test of time. These caged sandals were one of my first big splurges when I got my first real job a few years back, and they continue to be a staple in my closet. The chunky heel of these shoes is very comfortable, and I love that they instantly add a very edgy vibe to any outfit. I’m looking forward to taking advantage of the sunny weather and experimenting with different ways to wear these sandals.

I hope all of you in the U.S. are enjoying a relaxing long weekend and happy Independence Day! I’m usually really lazy and don’t do much on holiday weekends, but I’m looking forward to hanging out with my roommate, watching The Lobster and maybe catching some fireworks. And who can complain about getting an extra day off work, am I right?

    xoxo,

I promised that I was going to adopt a more consistent blogging schedule in my last post. However, it’s been hard to get back into the hang of things. I don’t think I was quite ready to add another project to my list of things to do. Instead of blogging, I escaped to the Oregon Coast with a few friends last weekend. It was nice to be away from my laptop and any sort of work. We spent a few hours at the beach just relaxing and taking in the scenery. There’s something about being near the ocean that just reminds me of being at home, and I have to say that Oregon beaches are quite beautiful.

That being said, I’m really happy to start blogging again. I had forgotten how fun it is working on this project of mine. Plus, now that I have more free time, I’ve been making more of an effort to explore my neighborhood and have found quite a few pretty corners and places to take outfit photos. But, some of them are in busy areas, so I’ll have to bother a friend to take my photos. I’m not brave enough yet to set up my tripod and pose all by myself.

The great thing about not having to go to class or being at work all the time, is that I have more flexibility with what I can wear. For example, this cute boater hat had been hiding in the back of my closet since I moved here. But, it was perfect for a day of leisurely walking around town last week. I paired it with a cute striped shirt and a denim skirt for some serious nautical vibes. Finally, I finished off this look with red lipstick and winged liner.

I would describe this look as minimalist nautical inspired pinup. In a way, it’s a modern take on some of the “cutesy” retro-inspired outfits I used to wear. However, it’s still representative of my current style. On that note, It’s really funny how my style has changed from year to year. I guess I’ll just have to keep you guessing with how I’ll continue to develop my style this summer.

    xoxo,
    Helen

After a hectic finals week, I flew back to Los Angeles for the weekend to visit family and attend my friends’ wedding. As usual, it’s nice to be back in what I like to refer to as my natural habitat. As you can see, it didn’t take long before I was back in my usual uniform. What can I say? I’ll never cease to be a SoCal girl at heart and there’s no better outfit than this Everlane poplin shirt and shorts for warm sunny days in my opinion.

I chopped my hair off a few weeks ago, but this is the first time my new do makes its debut on the blog. After years of growing out my hair, it took quite the courage to get rid of so many inches. I’m glad I did, though, because I love the new style and it is so much easier to manage. One of the best parts about being back in Los Angeles is getting to hang out with my sisters. They’ve always been such a huge part of this blog, but rarely ever make an appearance. That’s why I thought that, for a change, I’d showcase my sister Sarah’s enviable street style. We each have a very distinct sense of style, but I can’t help but to admire how cool she looks all the time.

I haven’t been very good about posting on this blog in the past few weeks, or participating in the blog community in any way. I wish I could say that I’ve been on some grand adventure, but really I’ve just been trying to get enough sleep. Grad school, work and just trying to make time for a normal social life. There’s so much to say about adjusting to life in a new place, but I’ll save that for another blog post when I have time to sit down and reflect. As always, thanks for visiting!
