    My 5 Favorite Lipsticks

    Photos by Sarah Veyna
My everyday makeup routine stays pretty consistent except when it comes to the shade on my lips. I like the way a certain lipstick color can completely transform your entire look and reflect a certain mood. I love lipsticks so much that it’s actually very rare to see me walk out of a cosmetics store without an armful of different lipstick swatches, and it takes a great amount of self-control to keep me from buying every shade of lipstick that catches my eye. Luckily, I’ve managed to find a few lipsticks that I truly love and and rotate depending on what type of style I want to achieve on any particular day. Keep on reading to learn more about my favorite shades of lipstick!
Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon in “Redwood Forest”: This reddish-brown lipstick glides on very easily and I love that the color is very buildable–you can apply one layer to add a subtle reddish sheen to your lips, like I did in the picture above, or you can also apply it to create a more deep mahogany color for a more edgy look.
M.A.C Cosmetics Lipstick in “Rebel”: Don’t be scared by how dark this particular lipstick looks like inside the tube because it’s actually a very beautiful shade of plum once you apply it. For everyday wear, I like to blot this lipstick and wear it as a pinkish-plum shade. However, every once in a while I also like to wear it as a deep plum color for a more “vampy” look.

M.A.C Cosmetics Lipstick in “Russian Red”: A nice red lipstick is definitely a great thing to have in your makeup bag, but it’s also very difficult to find the perfect shade. After trying several shades of red from different cosmetic lines, I finally settled on this bluish-red color from M.A.C. I like that this shade is very vibrant but doesn’t clash with my warm, but pale skin tone. I also like that this matte lipstick stays put without drying out my lips.
M.A.C Cosmetics Lipstick in “Twig”: This brownish-rose shade is my go-to everyday lipstick because it adds the right amount of color to my lips while still looking natural. I love how versatile the color is–I can wear it with mascara and a bit of eyeliner for a demure look, or I can play it up with a nice smokey eye.

NYX Cosmetics Soft Matte Lip Cream in “San Paulo”: The first thing that I was reminded of when I laid eyes on this shade of lipstick was flamingos. Just like flamingos, this hot pink color is very fun and vibrant which makes it perfect for summer months. It’s also just a great shade to wear when you want to add a nice pop of color to any outfit.
Please let me know what you think of these picks and if you have any favorites from this list. I’d also love to hear if you all have any recommendations, since I’m always on the lookout for new exciting products.

—This weekend was very busy for me in a good way. I had the opportunity to catch up with a couple of friends on both Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, I invited my sisters out to brunch in celebration of my sister Alejandra’s(Ale) birthday. Then we went back home where we enjoyed a delicious crepe cake that Ale made, which she will be sharing on this blog very soon. Ale takes many of my pictures and helps out with this blog in so many other ways, as you may already know, so I’m very excited to have her do a guest post.

Before I end this post, I also want to mention that I’m always amazed at how supportive the blogging community can be. I was so excited when I found out that Emma from the blog Fan In Style featured me in her recent post “8 Lifestyle Bloggers You Should Know”. Emma was also kind enough to interview me for her Blogger Spotlight series back in February. You should check out both posts and Emma’s amazing blog!

    My Home Workspace

    Photos by Ale Veyna

Today I’m showing you a peek into my “workspace” at home and talking about what I love about it. I was inspired to write this post after looking into WeWork, a coworking company that offers members access to offices all over the world; looking through WeWork’s website really got me thinking about my own workspace at home and why it works for me. If you haven’t guessed it yet, most of the work that I do on my blog is done from my bed. No matter how much I try to create a traditional office space at home, I always tend to gravitate towards this area of my house because it’s where I’m the most productive.

The main reason that I always end up working on my bed is because it provides me with some sense of balance in my life; keeping my blog feeling like it’s a creative outlet and not additional work is a constant challenge for me. In a typical work week I spend 20-30 hours working on this blog, and that’s on top of the 40 hours I already spend sitting at a desk at my full time job. I’ve come to realize that in order to stay motivated and be able to work an additional 2-4 hours when I come home from work, it’s necessary for me to feel like there’s a change of pace in my workday. Working from my bed makes a task like editing photos feel like a relaxing activity, and it makes writing a blog post become a fun creative writing exercise.

However, I hope to eventually have the opportunity to transition from working on my bed to a more structured work environment. My career goals are something that I constantly talk about on this blog, and along with the idea of my dream job also comes that of the perfect workplace. When I envision that space, I want an environment that is comfortable and inspires me to be creative. I also want to work somewhere that enables me to interact with other creative individuals. I have to say, though, that starting this blog has definitely helped me connect with other people with similar goals, which is something that I’m very grateful for.

I’m curious to learn more about your workspace? What do you like about it and why does it work for you?

    ————————————————————————————————————————–

I hope your week is off to a great start and that you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day! I spent Saturday acting as my own Valentine and buying myself treats like macarons and coffee. However, I stopped short of buying myself expensive flowers and going on a massive shopping spree. All joking aside, it was a good day. The best thing about it is that I had several friends text me throughout the day to wish me a Happy Valentine’s Day. Even though many of my friends are living in other states and we don’t see each other often, I love that we always find the time to show each other we care.

    Weekend Links

    Photo from my Instagram
TGIF! This week has been incredibly slow and I’m ready to enjoy the weekend. Actually, the reason that I’m so tired is because I’ve been having too much fun this week. I went to see the band We Are Scientists on Wednesday evening, and didn’t get much sleep before I went back to work the next day. That completely threw off my sleep schedule, and I’ve been trying to recover from lack of sleep all week. I think it’s needless to say that I’m really looking forward to getting some rest and relaxation in this weekend!  However, in between naps, I am also making time to finally go see the Hello Kitty Exhibition at JANM, so I’m excited to report on that next week. Until then, enjoy these links:
-I’m all about self-care and self-love these days, and reading articles on these subjects has helped me become better about incorporating both into my life. These are a few articles that I enjoyed reading this week: 5 Steps to Overcoming A Major Setback, 5 Mantras to Comfort You When You’re Feeling Lonely, and Seriously, Let’s End The War With Our Bodies.
-Speaking of self-care, I’ve found that yoga and meditation are extremely helpful when it comes to managing anxiety.  Can’t afford a membership at a yoga studio? Don’t worry about that because I’ve got you covered! Youtube has plenty of awesome Yoga channels and this is my current favorite.
    – I’ve decided that next year I’m definitely going to throw a Galentine’s Day Party! This week I’ve been reminded of how incredible all my girlfriends are, and I think having a day to celebrate our friendship is a great idea. If you’re into the idea, Paper & Stitch has the cutest post on how to throw your own.
-I’m not much of a drinker, but this Blood Orange Rosemary Gin Cocktail sounds yummy!
