Marigold is one of my favorite colors to wear. Yet, I don’t seem to have enough of it in my wardrobe. There’s just something about the color that immediately brightens up my mood. That is why I knew I had to have this marigold top when I was out shopping for business casual attire a few weeks back. While the color is bold, the warm shade is office-appropriate.
As you can see, what makes this piece so great is that it’s also perfect for everyday wear. I was going for a 70s vibe with this outfit I wore for a day of running around LA with my sister Ale. Therefore, I paired this top with high rise jeans and wooden clogs. On the website, the model is wearing the tie a bit higher. However, to keep true to the retro feel of this look, I wore the bow tied lower and near the neckline. I would also recommend wearing it this way if you’re looking for a more “modest” look. Otherwise, it can be a bit revealing.

Before I go, it rained a bit in Portland this weekend, so I’ll have to warn you that you may soon start seeing me in more transitional outfits on the blog. The good thing about this look is that you can easily layer on a sweater, but other pieces are more challenging. However, I feel confident that I’ll do a much better job at packing on the layers this fall and winter seasons since I already have one year of experience of dressing for PNW weather under my belt, but I’ll let you be the judge of that!

    Eyelet Top and Clogs

This year I’ve been trying to fill my closet with pieces that are classic, yet unique. This black eyelet top that I recently acquired most definitely fits that criteria. The eyelet detail in the back and scalloped hem make this piece stand out from other tops. Yet, the style of this eyelet top is classic enough that I’ll be able to wear it for years. I have to admit that I wasn’t very impressed with this top when I first saw it online. But, it fit like a dream when I tried it on in-store. For reference, this top does fit a bit loose, so I would recommend to size down.
These Lotta from Stockholm peep toe clogs are another piece in my closet that I know I will wear time and time again, and I actually recently purchased them to replace my last pair. These clogs tend to be my go-to shoes on sunny days because they look good with mostly anything. Plus, the wooden sole is extremely comfortable. I know that last part is true because I’ve walked several miles while wearing them before. Also, I can say that they age very well since I did have my previous pair for over 2.5 years. I got rid of them was because they were ruined as a result of a leak in my apartment. If all that is not enough to convince you that these clogs are a must-have item in your closet, than I don’t know what is.

     Upcoming Travel

I have no idea how I’ve managed not to mention this on the blog until now, but I’m traveling to Chile and Argentina in less than two weeks! I feel pretty behind on planning for this trip, so I spent a good chunk of this weekend tracking down items that I’ll need while abroad. I’m pretty excited to travel to these countries and visit South America for the first time. Even though I’m traveling to these countries as part of my graduate program, I’m sure that I’ll manage to squeeze in some fun activities here and there. I hope that this trip will be as exciting as I imagine it will be, and that I’ll be able to share some fun shots from my adventures with you in the near future.
As always, I hope you all had a lovely weekend and thanks for stopping by my little corner of the internet!
    xoxo,

    Birthday Weekend in Tie-Dye

    Photos by Ale Veyna
    Outfit Details:
Tie-Dye Dress (Similar here and here)
    Crocheted Purse-Handmade by my Grandmother
    Silver Earrings-Gift from my Mom
8 oz Latte (My favorite accessory of all time!)
I wore this ensemble when I went out to brunch with my sister on Saturday. This black and gray tie-dye dress is one of my favorite things that I own, but I don’t wear it enough because 1) it is inappropriate for work because it has an open back and 2) it’s not cozy enough to wear when it’s cold outside. My solution to all of the problems/excuses that were prohibiting me from wearing this dress was buying a basic black sweater. One of my resolutions this year is to be content with my existing wardrobe, and focus on buying things that will enhance it. I think that this is one of those instances when I practiced just that. This black sweater is a great basic for fall and winter, and also makes it easier for me to wear many items that are usually only appropriate for summer and spring.
To complete my look, instead of my usual cat eye makeup, I switched things up and used MAC Cosmetics Pigment in Blue-Brown on my eyes. As a person who has yet to master eye shadow, I love this pigment because it reflects different colors and allows you to create the illusion that you’re using multiple eye shadows depending on how much you layer and blend. Apparently, you can also apply this pigment while it’s wet to bring out more of the blue color and create a more intense effect. I’ll have to try out that method next time that I want to look like a disco queen.
Today is my 26th birthday, and I’ve been celebrating all weekend long! As you already know, my sister treated me to brunch on Saturday, and we went to Auntie Em’s Kitchen in Eagle Rock, one of my favorite brunch places. On Friday night, I went to see one of my favorite bands, Geographer, and I got to meet the lead singer Mike Deni. I had a good weekend, and it’s made me excited about the rest of my birthday month. Yes, I do celebrate my birthday all month long.
I have to admit, though, that I wasn’t too enthusiastic about my birthday a couple of weeks ago, mostly because I’ve been so tired and preoccupied with so many other things. However, this weekend has just been really great, and I feel positive that this is going to be a great year for me. After all, I’m surrounded by a great group of family and friends, and every day I become more mature and have the opportunity to learn a little more about myself. This is probably the first time that I’m approaching a new year without a list of expectations, and just trying to live in the moment. I just want to learn how to be grateful for everything I have and live without any regrets.
This weekend, I also celebrated my first year of blogging. When I started this blog one year ago, I honestly didn’t think that I would be able to stick with it. I’m also always so amazed at how many people visit this site every week, and how supportive everybody is of my little corner of the internet. When I started this blog, I thought that my Mom was going to be my only most loyal follower, but I’m always so happy when somebody new reaches out to me to let me know that they’re following along. Thank you so much for making all the work that goes into this space seem worth it! I promise to start bringing you more than just outfit posts once my schedule clears up.
    xoxo,
    Helen
