We’ve been enjoying cooler temperatures these past few weeks, so I’ve had the opportunity to break out some of my clothes that I usually don’t get to wear, such as this periwinkle sweater. I love the lavender blue shade, and I also like that it’s a top that I can wear with pretty much anything. As versatile as this sweater is, I probably won’t get to wear it again until next winter since the weather is supposed to be over 100 degrees by next week. It’s getting to be that time of year where I basically live in shorts, tanks, and loose dresses.
I hope you all enjoyed the weekend. I went to Disneyland with my sister and friend Dana, and that was pretty fun. I actually shot these photos about two weeks ago, which came in handy since I didn’t have the time or energy to take photos this weekend. I’ve realized that I like having the time to sit on my photos for a while instead of rushing to put together a post at the last minute. I’m going to try to be a bit more organized when it comes to this blog and plan ahead, so that I can work at  more leisurely pace and feature more diverse posts. I’ve been mostly focusing on outfits lately, since that’s easier to do when I’m in a crunch for time, but I want to get back to featuring more DIY tutorials and recipes on the blog. I already have some ideas for projects, but please let me know if you have any suggestions for future posts.

I was really looking forward to some rain and gray skies when I visited Portland, so that I could finally have the opportunity to get some use out of a few of my lightly worn sweaters and jackets that I packed in my carry-on. Unfortunately for me, it was nothing but blue skies while I was in town. We did, however, enjoy a few days of gloom in LA and I quickly jumped at the opportunity to practice dressing for slightly cooler weather. While I am very well aware that this ensemble will not cut it when freezing temperatures and rain hit Portland–my friends have already told me that it is necessary for me to invest in a good rain coat– it is an outfit that I rarely get to wear in sunny Southern California. Although I’m not complaining about being able to enjoy good weather all year-round, I have to say that I am definitely looking forward to living somewhere where the changes in the weather are a little more noticeable.

Lately I’ve been going on and on about my goal of investing in classic pieces that will remain in my wardrobe for years to come. I thought I’d switch it up a bit this week by featuring an item that has already survived the test of time; I bought this denim jacket when I was in high school and it’s been in my wardrobe for more than 10 years. The most obvious sign that this denim jacket was acquired during my teenage years is a patch with the word “Angel” located on the top right pocket, but that’s a detail that can easily be covered up with a pin or brooch to give it a more sophisticated vibe. Of course, no matter what I do to make myself seem like an adult, people are sometimes still going to mistake me for a teenager instead of a 26-year-old woman.
Speaking of being a 26, my friend made me realize the other day that I’m getting closer to turning 30! I’m not really ready to discuss this in full detail, but there are some really cool and exciting changes happening in my future. Despite my enthusiasm about what the future has in store for me, I’m really bad at dealing with change. I was discussing this fact with a friend and she made me snap out of feeling anxious by turning to me and saying, “Helen, just look at this way–you’re almost going to be 30!” I don’t have a fear about getting older, but putting things in that perspective made me realize that I should start embracing change and looking for ways to move forward with my goals.
In other news, I’ve finally started to recover from feeling burnt out. I decided to take it easy last week and felt so much more energized this weekend. Even though I’m on my way to becoming my old cheerful self again, I realize that I need to start taking better care of myself. That is why I decided to plan out a vacation this weekend and booked a one-night stay at the Madonna Inn during the month of May. I’m very excited about my getaway because I’ve wanted to visit the hotel for a while and I’m really looking forward to spending time relaxing by the pool. Plus, having this trip all planned out will definitely serve as motivation for me in the next few weeks.
