I originally wanted to photograph this outfit on my favorite bridge, but my sister and I were having too much trouble trying to find good lighting. To make things worse, we had a few people yell at us from their cars during the five minutes we spent trying to figure out what angle would work best. Not wanting to deal with more street harassment, my sister and I took a leisurely stroll and it wasn’t long before we found this fence covered with beautiful vines.
The beautiful green backdrop turned out to be the perfect place to photograph this simple outfit. I love this basic tank from Everlane because the material is thick and isn’t clingy, and I really like the loose and relaxed fit. The highlight of this outfit, however, is my new pair of Seychelles heels that I bought as a birthday present to myself. I had been keeping my eye on them for almost a year and they finally went on sale for less than $35! Moments like this are why I’m a true believer that good things always come to those who wait.
I’ve been feeling so creative lately, and it’s a bit overwhelming because I wish that I had the time and money to bring to life all the ideas floating around in my head. It was nice to have an extra day off this weekend to focus on this blog and brainstorm ideas. However, it was really hard to put away everything that I was working on in order to go back to my regular weekly routine. Sometimes I wish I could just go on a very long vacation where all I do is make things and cook, but that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen anytime soon.
One of the things that puts me in a crafty mood is hanging around creative people, whether they be friends or family. On my day off on Monday, I spent most of the day with my sister Ale and my abuelita(grandma) Chela, who are both very artistic and creative women. I’m always inspired by the variety of things my grandma makes, and she is constantly encouraging me to learn new crafts. She even dragged me to Michael’s while we were out and about, and I ended up buying a crochet needle so that I can finally start learning the craft. In order to follow through with that goal, I promised my grandma that I would visit her on Saturday afternoons so that she can teach me the basics. I’m excited about the things that I will make and, most importantly, I’m glad that I’m making an effort to spend time with one of my favorite people.
    xoxo,

As you can probably tell from all of my recent posts, lately I’ve been doing a whole lot of shopping in my own closet.  I’ve made a personal goal to really work on paying off my car and saving up some money in the next year, so I can’t splurge on clothes as much as I used to. Although it’s been a extremely hard to fight off the urge to indulge in some retail therapy, I’m determined to practice some self-control. As I’m working towards my goal, it really helps me that the joy of rediscovering a piece that I forgot that I had in my closet is just as satisfying as purchasing something new.
My latest closet find was this floral sundress that I purchased a couple of years ago. Upon rediscovering this dress, it really blew my mind that I hadn’t worn it at all this summer. The cutout in the back and the breathable fabric make it perfect for the intense heat that we’re experiencing in SoCal. I decided to pair this dress with my new Queen of the Fairies headband from Raina Roo’s Etsy Shop, and it totally made me feel like a magical nymph.
My younger sister Sarah takes most of my outfit photos for my blog, and it’s been a true bonding experience for us. Thanks to these outfit shoots, we both manage to get dressed and out of the house every weekend. This weekend we took my outfit photos by a pond at Caltech in Pasadena, and we decided to take a break by taking some nature shots. It was a good way for both of us to get some practice photographing different subjects. I can only hope that one of these days, Sarah will  finally allow me to photograph her outfits.
Putting together this post was very exciting for me because this is actually my 50th blog entry. I started this blog a couple of months ago as a New Year’s resolution, in hopes that it would serve as a creative outlet and give me a reason to be more socially active. This blog has definitely served that purpose, and has even turned into part of my weekly self-care routine. When I’ve had a tough week and all that I want to do is lay around and watch T.V. on the weekend, it helps me to have something that motivates me to actually get out of the house. I’m also very grateful that this blog has helped me keep in touch with friends that are far away, and has even connected me to other amazing people with similar interests.
In celebration of my 50th blog post, I’ve teamed up with Raina Roo to offer you a chance to win the two beautiful, handmade crocheted headbands pictured below. I’m very excited to collaborate with Raina Roo because I have been a huge fan of Raina’s shop for a long time, and I love that she makes beautiful handmade items that fit a variety of styles. You can enter to win some of her wonderful creations below! I will announce the winner here on September 1st.

    Flowers in My Hair

    Photos by Sarah Veyna
    Outfit Details:
    Free People Lace Dress
    Belt (Borrowed from my sister)
    Seychelles Pumps in Beige (Old)
I featured parts of this outfit in my DIY Floral Fascinator post a couple of weeks ago, but I wanted to give the whole ensemble the attention it deserves. After looking for a white lace dress for the longest time, I finally settled on this one from Free People when I found it on sale about a year ago. What I love the most about this dress is that the fabric has beautiful peach-colored embroidery which gives it a very romantic feel. When I originally bought this dress I had planned to wear it with a floral crown to give it a bohemian look. But, let’s be honest, boho chic is not exactly my style. Wearing a floral fascinator with this dress gave my outfit a girly and vintage vibe, which I think better reflects my personal style.
My sister took these pictures about a week ago because I went to Portland this weekend, and didn’t want to be bothered with having to post pictures from my adventure immediately after I got back. I’m still letting all that happened on my trip sink in a bit before I try to piece it all together on this blog. I am planning to post a couple of pictures later this week, but in the meantime you can catch glimpses of my adventure on Instagram.
I had been planning my trip to Portland for months, and I’m so glad that it finally happened. Lately I’ve been feeling very unsure about how I want to grow these next few years, and taking a vacation gave me time to really give the matter some thought and gain some clarity. I’ve been feeling very bored and stuck in one place for the past year, and spending time with friends and exploring a new place gave me the opportunity to think about what really makes me happy. In that vein, my weekend adventure also gave me the opportunity to start considering other things and be open to big changes such as applying to grad school, and possibly moving somewhere else. I don’t know what my game plan is just yet, but that’s just what makes new adventures even more fun.
    xoxo,
