How to Make Staying at Home a Bit More Enjoyable

This feels like such a weird time to revisit my blog because of what’s currently going on in the world. As a person who lives for the weekend, it’s been hard to transition to a routine where the days just seem to blend together. In these moments of frustration, however, I remind myself that adhering to stay at home orders is helping keep me and my neighbors safe.

Thankfully, I’ve found a few ways to adapt to my new lifestyle and ward off cabin fever. Keep reading to learn what I’ve been doing to make staying at home more enjoyable.

Make Time for Self-Care

Doing things that make you feel happy, whole, and well-rested is especially important during this time. What that looks like for you depends on how you recharge and deal with your emotions.

My self-care during this time involves focusing my energy on projects such as decorating my apartment, organizing, and learning how to make sourdough (yes, I’m one of those people). I’ve found that adding activities to my daily routine helps me alleviate some of that pent up anxiety, makes time fly by, and gives me something to look forward to.

The process of recharging looks different for everyone, however, so don’t feel the pressure to create a list of projects. If doing things is overwhelming for you, remember that it’s okay to take this time to simply rest. After all, if there was ever a time meant for binging your favorite Netflix series, it is now.

If You’re WFH, Make Sure to Leave the Office

Like many of you, I had little time to adapt to this change and set up a home office. And, on most days, I find myself working at my kitchen table or in my living room. In the first few weeks of this new routine, I’d often leave my work laptop hanging around after the workday was over. This made it easy for me to revisit projects at the end of the day, making me feel like I was always at work. Needless to say, I’d go into the weekend feeling depleted and overworked.

Putting away my work computer at the end of the day has done wonders when it comes to helping me enjoy my space and feel well-rested. To start, this eliminates the temptation to go back to my work after hours. It also makes my space feels less cluttered and more comfortable. In other words, it feels like home again.

It can feel very easy to feel alone while staying at home. I live with two roommates (including my sister), and I still miss the rest of my family and friends. Thankfully, social media and online group hangouts are helping me stay connected.

If Zoom parties leave you feeling depleted, there are other ways to connect with those around you that don’t require as much face time. A phone call here and there or even writing a letter to somebody you love can give you a sense of community during these times.

I’m sure I’m not saying many things that are new to you, but I hope this post inspires you to think about what you can do to make this transition easier for you. As I continue to adapt to this new routine, I hope that I can discover new finds, projects, and ideas to share with you. Until next time, friends!
